Another widely read spiritual writer during the Black Death Plague and concurrent low spiritual ebb of the church in the 14th century was a woman known as Julian of Norwich.
She was deeply troubled about the terrible things happening, and questioned why God hadn’t stopped evil. At age 30, ill and seemingly dying, she heard Jesus saying to her:
“It behooved [was necessary] that there should be sin,
but all shall be well, and all shall be well,
and all manner of thing shall be well.”
— Revelations of Divine Love by Julian of Norwich (~1342-1412 AD)
Jesus told his followers, ” I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world” — John 16.33 NLT
Coffee/tea thought: Like Julian of Norwich, are you troubled today? Meditate on Jesus’ words, allowing them to flow through your soul.
