We want to grow to spiritual maturity. But as Fenelon says, we resist God in the process! When he sends loss and trials, we don’t like it. We grumble, “Why does God have to do it that way?!”
Fenelon says we are like people who put a small child to bed at night and the next morning expect to find it transformed into a 30-yr-old adult!
Think of the _struggles_ and _time_ that God used to deepen men and women of faith in the Bible, like Abraham and Sarah, Hannah the mother of Samuel, David and even the mother of Jesus who was told “a sword will pierce your own soul.”
Coffee/tea thought: Lord, I see that I often resist Your work in me. Please forgive me. I give myself to You. I trust You to deepen me spiritually. Amen
