After some years back home in Britain, one night Patrick had another dream: He heard people speaking in the Irish tongue, begging him to return to them. His response to this dream would change the course of history.
Pondering the meaning of his dream, Patrick felt God was calling him to return to Ireland, to bring the teaching of Christ to the land where he had been a slave.
Patrick’s parents begged him not to go back — he would be killed! Patrick knew he might die, but felt God was calling him to go.
He thought of Christ’s model, Who left the safety and glory of Heaven to come to earth to save people. Patrick’s response was “I must go.”
Coffee/tea thought: Imagine you are Patrick considering God’s call to return to Ireland. What thoughts, fears might tempt you not to go? How would remembering God’s presence with you as a slave give you courage to say yes to God?
