The story of Ruth portrays loyalty and faithfulness, virtue and sexual purity, love and care. Though Ruth and her mother-in-law Naomi begin with deep loss, sorrow and poverty, their story reveals a Deeper Plan at work.
The Bible doesn’t answer all our questions of “why”. But it does tell of the Sovereignty of God working in real peoples’ lives, bringing about great good from seeming tragedy.
By faith, the foreigner Ruth becomes Great Grandmother of David, Israel’s greatest King.
And on a far larger scale, Ruth becomes an ancestor of Christ, the promised “Son of David” who is the Savior of the whole world. (Matthew 1, verses 1, 5 and 16)
