The pile of memory stones set up by Joshua was to remind God’s people of his faithfulness. (Joshua 4)
One of the stones in my own pile reminds me of many years ago when I was a university student. I had been a serious follower of Christ for a year. One day I received a devastating letter saying that the young woman I had for several years planned to marry was no longer interested. Weeks of struggle ensued; one hour I could trust in God’s goodness, and the next I felt confusion and darkness.
I now see this was for me a time of what St. John of the Cross calls “the dark night of the soul.” But it also was a time when my new faith grew by leaps and bounds, and I would not trade it for anything.
Three years later I met Win who became my wife, and I can affirm God’s wisdom and faithfulness.
Coffee/tea thought: Do any of your memory stones remind you of God’s faithfulness during a very dark time?
